Nov 2003 was obviously Neil Young's. For many years Young has always been the one I wanted to see. And I thought that after that, no one else matters anymore. I was dead wrong. The days after, I wanted to see him again. Like discovering something new that's good, I wanted more. Not just him but others that I've admire for years like Nick Cave, Paul Westerberg and David Bowie. It would be pretty neat to see these fellas.
March 2004 was Bowie's. Thanks to Soch and the people from Sony, I manage to meet him at the post-gig greet-n-meet. There were about two dozen people in the room. Local media, foreign media, contest winners, record company people, minders warmly applause when he entered the room. Pleasantries, autographs, a few hug him, most shook his hand to know he's flesh n real, the starstruck moments were over in a whiff.
2 down and 2 more to go. I doubt Westerberg would have enough audience here for any promoters to fly him in- I need to fly there then. Cave might fit nicely into some Esplanade venue. Lets hope and dream. And save $ too for the trip.
Everyone should know by now the 26th March gig at Alliance Francais where Observatory will launch their debut CD. Supported by Throb, Concave Scream and George Chua, get your tickets at ticketcharge.com.sg. Its free seating so be there early. I adore Time Of Rebirth packaging, telling Vivian "its a work of heart". She revealed it was more "... a factory assembly line lor. All sit down and do one evening till late." March began with Bowie and will end with Observatory. Its a good month.
December 2003 was a 3 weeks adventure in Cambodia and Laos.
Kids singing performing for alms in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Toule Sleng Museum was once used by Pol Pot's regime for interrogation, torture and murder. Ten of thousands died there.
Khay Mun, Jeanne and I managed to round up schoolbags and thongs for the kids in this orphanage in Siem Reap.
I couldn't resist a touristy picture.
Hmong village kids in Laos. We trekked for 5hrs. 30degrees in the sun but 18 in the shade. No sweat at all. Unbelievable.
Laos country dirt roads. Nites can fall to 10deg. We take our baths in the day.
We shall return. (note: stay longer in Luang Prabang)
January 2004 was spent deliberating things. February 2004 saw a lot resolved. April 2004 will be exciting as I start work on the music for Durian King, a new TV series to be telecast end of May. Last week Rizman told me Tiramisu is in midst of recording. So is Big Red Moment. Serenaide is gonna start soon- by hook or by crook! While Astreal put the finishing touches to their album, here's a little appetiser appetiser titled Snowflake recorded at LaSalle in Sept 2003.
